Comparison

WheelClick vs Jitouch

Jitouch is a free, open-source gesture app with middle click on the trackpad (three-finger tap) and the Magic Mouse on by default, plus drawn-character gestures; its last release is from January 2023. WheelClick is built around the middle click and maintained, runs from macOS 12, keeps three-finger click and tap free forever, and costs $4.99 once for the rest.

macOS understands a middle click everywhere, but Apple’s trackpads and the Magic Mouse have no way to make one, and macOS has never had the autoscroll Windows and Linux users take for granted. Anyone who switches platforms with that muscle memory ends up looking for an app. WheelClick and Jitouch are two independent answers to that same gap, built by different developers with different approaches; neither is a copy of the other. Below is an honest, attribute-by-attribute comparison so you can pick the one that fits how you work.

Jitouch is by Supasorn Suwajanakorn and Sukolsak Sakshuwong, later Aaron Kollasch — its site is here. Jitouch is a free, GPL-3.0 gesture app for the trackpad and Magic Mouse, known for drawn-character gestures and per-app gesture sets. A three-finger tap on the trackpad and a "Middle Click" gesture on the Magic Mouse are on by default. Its last release, 2.82.1, came out in January 2023.

Cells marked “Not documented” mean Jitouch’s own materials don’t state it either way — we would rather leave a blank than publish a guess about someone else’s app. Every cell was re-verified against Jitouch’s own current materials on 9 October 2026; if something has gone stale since, tell us and it gets fixed. Which one fits you

Pick Jitouch if you want free, open-source gestures well beyond a middle click: drawn characters, window moves, and a gesture set per app, on the trackpad and the Magic Mouse alike, and you are fine with an app whose last release was in January 2023.

Pick WheelClick if the middle click is what you came for and you want it kept working: WheelClick is maintained, with three releases in September 2026, keeps three-finger click and tap free forever, and adds fn+click, Force Click, Middle-Drag and autoscroll for $4.99 once.

Either way you end up with a middle click your Mac should arguably have shipped with — see why macOS never did.
